Cyberbullying: A culture

Technology has shrunk the world, providing us with ease to accessing information and communication. It has given us the opportunity to express our opinions freely and anonymously. Though there are many advantages to this, our generation, as a result of technology, are now faced with a new serious moral problem that I truly believe should be considered a CRIME. This new and growing problem is a form of bullying called ONLINE HATE.

Why do people hate? Why does it give them pleasure to hurt others for absolutely no reason? What makes it ok? I would love to see someone try to provide me with answers because truth be told, I don’t see any possibility of such behaviors being justified.
Our society has normalized online hate, as they feel that it is ok to condemn someone anonymously. It has become a form of bullying in disguise, as it has taken the guise of “freedom of speech.” But NO, being hateful and spreading hate is not a form of freedom, let alone communication. How has it become socially acceptable for us to type hurtful things as opposed to saying them directly?

Something we all need to remember is that we are never 100% privy to what another person is going through. You may not realize this, but a single hateful comment could hurt someone’s self esteem, negatively impact their view of the world and in most painful cases, lead them to suicide. YES, words truly KILL!

We all have moral responsibilities to uphold. Each and every one of us have the responsibility to respect, protect and help one another. Therefore, we need to hold these bullies ACCOUNTABLE for their actions. Don’t let online bullying become part of our culture. STOP BULLYING! Stop ONLINE bullying!

Thank you Agon (@projectnightfall) for this fantastic video! Keep up the amazing work! Hope to see you again soon!
